San Bernardino, CA – Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station were conducting a follow up investigation in Redlands when Deputy Chavez conducted a records check on a silver Honda Civic and discovered it had been stolen from Fontana.
Chavez, who was on assignment with members of the Twin Peaks Multi-Enforcement Team (MET), followed the vehicle in the area of Alabama Avenue and Citrus Plaza. He was in an unmarked unit.
THE INCIDENT
Deputy Chavez had dispatch notify local agencies to assist with a traffic stop. The vehicle eventually traveled to the area of Waterman Avenue and Vanderbilt Way in the San Bernardino.
After realizing he had been spotted, Deputy Chavez initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The Honda failed to yield and led Deputy Chavez on a short pursuit through business parking lots and eventually back onto surface streets.
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Rebecca Rodriguez, 28, nearly struck pedestrians while trying to get away. The pursuit ended when Deputy Chavez blocked the vehicle in the area of Vanderbilt Way and Carnegie Drive.

The passenger, later identified by authorities as Jesus Delgado, 23, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Deputy Chavez relayed his position and Delgado’s direction of travel to responding units from outside agencies.
While a containment perimeter was being established, Delgado attempted to hide inside a nearby restaurant. Unbeknownst to Delgado, there were two San Bernardino Police Officers inside the restaurant — located in the 500 block of East Hospitality Lane in San Bernardino — having lunch.
Delgado was immediately apprehended when the two officers determined his behavior was suspicious. The officers were informed Delgado was wanted and he was taken into custody without further incident, according to a press release.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Rodriguez and Delgado were both arrested for V.C. 2800.2(A) Failure to Yield with Disregard to Safety, as well as several outstanding warrants. They were transported and booked into the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino.
Responding agencies included the San Bernardino Police Department, Sheriff’s Central Station, San Bernardino County Probation and the Sheriff’s Aviation Unit.
