San Bernardino, CA – Bail was set at $150,000 for 52-year-old Reo Delmore Moore after he entered a not guilty plea — via video — to evading the California Highway Patrol during a slow-speed chase.
The pursuit began on Highway 18 near Kuffel Canyon Road in Sky Forest and ended with the deployment of a spike strip on Highway 330 near Highland Avenue.
Commissioner Ronald J. Gilbert denied Moore’s request to be released on his own recognizance. Moore is currently in custody at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
THE INCIDENT
Shortly after noon on Wednesday, October 21, Moore was driving his Chevy S-10 pickup on Highway 18 near Kuffel Canyon Road when he approached Matich Corporation crews paving a section of the roadway. Traffic was stopped waiting for the flagman to signal they could pass through the work zone.
The California Highway Patrol reports Moore ignored the flagman and entered the area being paved striking two vehicles along the way, injuring a motorist and almost striking one of the workers.
A CHP unit monitoring the road work began a pursuit as the pickup headed to Highway 330 being joined by additional units.
SPIKE STRIP DEPLOYED
The 20-mile slow speed pursuit ended on Highway 330 near Highland Avenue when law enforcement officials deployed a spike strip.
The spike strip flattened one of the tires on Moore’s vehicle and he was taken into custody by the CHP.
THE CHARGES/COURT APPEARANCE
Moore faces a felony count of evading peace officers with wanton disregard for safety and two misdemeanor charges of diving under the influence of a drug and hit-and-run with injuries.
The subject’s next court appearance is a pre-preliminary hearing at 8:30 a.m. on November 2 in Department S-11.
